Since the beginning of COVID-19, Blue Ridge Energy has worked to assist our members during this difficult time. With the expiration of Gov. Cooper's Executive Orders 124 and 142, Blue Ridge remains committed in our efforts by continuing to suspend disconnects and waiving penalty and late fees for electric members until October. However, we encourage everyone with a past due balance (including Flexpay members) to call us by August 31 at 1-800-451-5474 to set up a special payment plan or ask us about crisis assistance from the In This Together Relief Fund.
Watauga Students Awarded Scholarships
Two Watauga County students were recently selected out of 50 applicants to receive college scholarships from Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation.
Each year, Blue Ridge Electric provides scholarships totaling up to $17,500 across its service area of Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany and Wilkes counties to students seeking to further their academic goals. The scholarships awards range from $400 to $2,000 for students pursuing four-year degrees or students or adults seeking two-year degrees in vocational training.
The Watauga County recipients are as follows:
• Anna Marie Phillips, daughter of Danny and Laurie Phillips, $500 scholarship to attend UNC-Chapel Hill;
• Savanna Paige Greene, daughter of Donna Wilson, $2,000 scholarship to attend Appalachian State University.
Students were selected based on a number of factors including academic performance, community service and personal interviews.
This year marks the 57th year Blue Ridge Electric has awarded college scholarships. To date, 453 area students and citizens have received $414,000 to help them attend the college of their choice.
