Types of scams to watch out for:

  1. Shutoff scams - These scammers call and claim to be a Blue Ridge Energy employee, incorrectly informing you that your account balance is overdue. They'll tell you that avoiding disconnection is only possible by issuing immediate payment over the phone. NOTE: Blue Ridge employees will never call you and demand payment over the phone.

  2. Fake Energy Audits - It may be a knock at your door that leads to this scenario. Someone will pose as a Blue Ridge Energy employee or a contractor sent by Blue Ridge. They'll offer an energy audit of your home as a way to collect payment from you. NOTE: Blue Ridge Energy would never show up to your home for an energy audit without a request from the member beforehand. Also beware of calls offering this service and requests for phone payment prior to conducting the service.

  3. New Utility Scams - The provider of electricity will not change at your home, so beware of scammers claiming to work for another utility that will be providing service to your property.

Remember, only you can prevent scams from occurring! Follow your instincts and know that if it sounds fishy, it probably is fishy. Whenever you're in doubt, call Blue Ridge Energy directly at 1-800-451-5474.

Español - Cuidado con las estafas

Tipos de estafas a tener en cuenta:
