Since the beginning of COVID-19, Blue Ridge Energy made the decision to suspend disconnects, waive late fees and offer special payment plans to assist our members and customers during this difficult time. While the decision had already been made to extend these special circumstances, Gov. Cooper also issued a new Executive Order 142 on May 30. We encourage everyone (including Flexpay members) to continue paying your energy bill to avoid a large balance at the end of this crisis. All Outages Restored
As of 5:53 pm, Blue Ridge Energy line technicians had power restored to all members that were impacted by Winter Storm Diego.
The storm began early Sunday morning, when over a foot of snow fell in the cooperative’s service area. Effects were most damaging in Caldwell and Wilkes counties where temperatures were slightly warmer, causing a heavier, wet snow that brought down trees and limbs onto power lines. Approximately 150 locations of the electric system were damaged from the storm.
Line crews began power restoration after outages started at 2:47 am Sunday. The height of the outages was 2,269 members impacted at noon Sunday.
Crews faced the challenge of working their way into impassable areas, driving on dangerous road conditions with snow up to line truck bumpers and often walking long distances with snow above knee level to reach system damage causing the outages.
