Since the beginning of COVID-19, Blue Ridge Energy made the decision to suspend disconnects, waive late fees and offer special payment plans to assist our members and customers during this difficult time. While the decision had already been made to extend these special circumstances, Gov. Cooper also issued a new Executive Order 142 on May 30. We encourage everyone (including Flexpay members) to continue paying your energy bill to avoid a large balance at the end of this crisis. Call us at 1-800-451-5474 to set up a special payment plan or ask us about crisis assistance from the In This Together Relief Fund.
Fireplace Mantel Shelves
Perk up any part of your home with beautiful fireplace mantel shelves. Adding mantel shelves can give an elegant, yet functional touch to your home and raise the value of it. Shelf mantels are available in a wide variety of different sizes and finishes. Choose from unfinished, finished, and paint grade. Mantels come in both pre-fabricated and custom-built versions. Going with the pre-fab may save you some money, but it may be worth it to you to hire an expert carpenter to build one specifically to your liking and customize it to just your home.
One thing you may not think to think about when considering fireplace mantel shelves is to first research your local fire codes. There could be certain laws about how high and how far you are allowed to place a wood, stone, or steel shelf from the flame of the fireplace. Another thing you may not think of is to look at the relation of the mantel to your ceiling. If you have a high ceiling, placing a mantel too close to the fireplace can make things look cramped. Or, if you have a lower ceiling, and you install your mantel shelves high on the wall, it can give off the feel that shelves are too far away from the fireplace.
